Who Is Writing This

I will keep this short, because I am not the point.

I am a private man, somewhere past forty, and I would like to stay otherwise unfindable. You will not turn me up elsewhere, save here and the few rooms I go to in order to talk about this. That is on purpose, and there is nothing mysterious in it. A quiet life is an easier place to think clearly from.

The road here

I was raised in a conservative Christianity. When it stopped holding water I went looking, the way people do, and then I kept going: into Christian Science, into Unity, into Joel Goldsmith, into the Gospel of Thomas. A man I respected once told me to chew the meat and spit out the bones. I spent years at it, and found in the end that most of what I had been handed was bone. But the meat. The meat was past measuring, and stronger than anything in this world.

Most of what I had been taught to do, I had to set down. The petitioning. Most of the rules. Anything that bound me more tightly to this place instead of loosening me from it. What remained was small, and for the first time it was something I could act on: a desire to reach the source, and a willingness to believe I could. From there I built my own way across, more like a long experiment than a faith, full of wrong turns and whole seasons when I gave it up. And then it worked. It has gone on working ever since.

What I am to you

I am not a guru, and I want no following. Think of me, if you need a word, as a guide. A witness. A teacher who happens to have walked the road a little further down it. No further than you are able to walk it yourself.

Why it is free

I am giving all of this away. There is no fee, no membership, and nothing on these pages built to steer you toward a purchase. Someday there may be a book, once there is more set down than a website can hold, but that is not why I am here and it is not soon. I am here because each time I come back from the other side I am left with the same plain charge, and I have stopped arguing with it: tell the ones who are looking.
